Quilted Santa Online Project and Class by Dana
Basic Directions:

1.
Paint doll face.  Paint shoes (if you purchased kit I used Folk Art - 237 FAWN color).  Construct doll as desired.

2.
Cut out pants pattern.  Sew inseam from cuff to crotch on both pieces.  Slide each up dolls leg, overlap, and glue or sew around doll's hips.  I folded over
the raw edge (where zipper
would go) and glued this on top.
Now pinch pleat extra material
and glue pleats flat (see photo).

Add additional trim if desired
with glue.

Then spray on fabric stiffener,
and pin pants legs down to give
nice drape.  Let pants dry
thoroughly.

3.  Cut out Dikki and glue on.  Wrap a piece of lace around neck if desired.  Note this is optional as you won't see on finished santa.  Next cut out two faux vest
pieces, fray check edges, and glue on as shown.
4.  Coat bottom is 4 1/2" long by 5 1/2" wide.
If you have a favorite method of quilting.... by all means use it!  What I did is use 4 fabrics.  A tiny stripped material, a small green pattern and solid burgandy/dk green.

Quilting:  Cut four tiny strips of material about 5 1/2" long and 3/4" wide.  (Example: stripped material (1) sewn to green print (2) , green print to burgandy (3), burgandy to stripped material(4).  When you are finished you will have
one piece of 4 different horizontal stripes.  Press open seams.

Next take this large piece, and cut into 1/2" wide strips.  This strip should resemble the first row of quilting above (four small squares.... striped material, burgandy, green, striped material).  I ended up with 11 strips and I sewed one, reversed one, sewed one, reversed one so it ended up looking checkerboard.

Now sew this checkerboard design to a strip of green material, and then add enough vertical stripped material to make up correct coat size.  I can't give definite dimensions because everyone will have different seam allowances etc.  THE MAIN thing is to have a finished  coat bottom 4 1/2 L x 5 1/2 W.  Lastly add a tiny strip of fur around coat as shown above.  I took a piece, glued it to wrong side of coat material, around top and glued down so it look rounded.  Now gather top of coat, wrap around doll's back/torso and sew/glue on.

5.  Coat out two sleeve patterns.  Sew up side seam.  Add row of
fur to cuff.  Slide up doll's arm and glue around shoulder. Repeat
with other sleeve.
6.  Cut out Yoke pattern piece.  Turn under all edges to wrong side (VERY tiny edge), and
glue yoke over top of coat and sleeve raw edges (see photo above).  **remember** the front and neck will be covered by fur and beard!

7.
Add a strip of fur around
neck to finish coat.

8.
Pin folds into coat with quilters
pins.  Then spray with fabric stiffner
to set into place.  Add buttons to vest.
9.  Cut hood out of material (whatever color you like).  Glue fur around edge, then gather edges.  Pin in place on santa's head, and back.  Glue on.
Your Santa's coat is now finished!
